The Pine Grosbeak is the largest of the northern finches. Their latin name, Pinicola, means pine dweller. I find common ground with these colourful little birds who love to play amongst pine trees all winter long. I love their red colour that seems to laugh in the face of all the other northern animnals blending in for survival. The Grosbeak reminds me of red woolen mittens on a frozen day.
