I have always thought of a pelican as an omen of goodness. For every instance in my life when the outlook seemed grim - a pelican swooped in at the most enchanting moment to reassure me that things would be fine. Things would be good, in fact.
My Ukrainian Grandfather (my Gedo) passed away on Christmas Eve last year and when he died I had an overwhelming feeling of peace for him. Of joy. Things were fine. He was ready + asking to go - to be with the friends that had passed before him - to be with his wife of 65 years, my Baba. He had always been a large and silent character in my life’s story and when he died I imagined him soaring youthfully with his will restored.

This painting and your description is a perfect depiction of Gedo. I am so excited for my print to arrive so I can hang it in my office and think of him in that way every day. Thank you!
