Morning and a big aloha. (This pic is from our recent trip to Hawaii. I couldn't resist snapping up such an apropos idea.) Yesterday was a funny day full of life's little lessons. I decided to paint. I was inspired to paint. I got off my butt to paint. And inside that action I discovered the secret to just about EVERYTHING - if you're not in the groove - you're out of the groove.
What do I mean by that? In January and February, when I was getting ready for my art show and life was a buzz and the adrenaline and inspiration were thick - I PAINTED EVERY DAY. All day. So slipping into paint-mode was seamless. Yesterday was tough. First, I bombarded myself with all of the excuses: there's no room, it's too humid, I'm almost out of white paint, I have a headache... blah, blah, blah. Second, I farted around being grumpy about it tossing stuff around (literally). Third, I kicked my own ass and started looking for a fan to help with the humidity (the ONLY valid excuse I sort of had).
I found an old construction fan of Dan's and TO MY GREAT SURPRISE - it was an Aloha fan. No joke. I don't know about you - but, I notice these little tidbits and coincidences and I wholeheartedly believe they're the Universe's way of reminding me that a sense of humour and a lighter step are the tools to making it through to a better space. ALOHA back at ya.
So, I kept painting.
This apple painting is called Everyday. It's just a small one - 10 x 12 inches on a thick wrap gallery canvas. I have a couple of others on the go and as much as I should probably be getting some other stuff done - I'm going to paint today, too. Why? Because it feels frickin' delicious.
I finished this one about a month ago... it's called Silence. It's 6 x 24 inches on plywood. Something about it didn't call for words...
If I could send out one message today - it would be to KEEP DOING IT. I read tons of blogs - I have a list of about 25 that I make it through everyday and the common thread I've been seeing this week is something I call Heavyboots. See here for a better explanation. Everybody wears heavyboots from time to time... and that's okay. It's whether or not you can kick them off in the end that makes it worth while.
Today: PAINT. I'm going to do a little housecleaning in my painting 'studio' as well as on the blog you see here. I wanna change some stuff, add some stuff, move some things. I'm working on an Etsy store and my personal art website. GUESS WHAT - show plans start for my late September/October art show. Exciting! Lots of stuff starting to pick up NOW THAT I REALIZED SEPTEMBER IS COMING FAST. Holy Macarena. OH! Baby Cait and her dad Randy Sawatzky are making their way over this morning for a visit and I can't wait!
Do me a favour... jet outta work early for a yummy Mai Tai (have one for me please) or shim-shimmy those hips like you're a grass skirt dancer - because it's a hump day hula. Aloha. Lots and lots of aloha.
PS - new Tiplet coming soon.
Let's GO.
