Seriously. It is hot. Mavis from LuckyDog wrote in yesterday and said that the temperature IN her house reached 30 degrees yesterday. Ours too. AND we have AC! Okay, we only have a window unit in the bedroom - but, it does a fine job of cooling down the whole house when you need it. For the record: 38˚C is 100˚F. 100˚F is HOTTER than the 98˚ IN YOUR MOUTH. Holy smack. Come on. Today looks like much of the same - only it's supposed to RAIN towards evening, too. (How many days until winter? I love winter.)
Yesterday, I was working on some test shots and ideas for the stationery company I met with last week. Botanical Paperworks. I met with the owner, Heidi, who is looking to get a bit of an image spruce up. I wasn't going to put the link to the webpage because there's going to be some improvements made BUT - I couldn't resist the paper connection here. THIS PAPER IS HANDMADE & PLANTABLE. Seriously. How cool is that? There are all kinds of things you can do with it - the photo shows a wedding favour style. THINK. It's recyclable in the form of flowers!! Invitations, thank-you's, birth announcements, etc. I think that's pretty darn cool. AND USABLE IN LIFE ART THAT CREATES ART IN THE FORM OF FLOWERS. Anyways, I was shooting some different angles and ideas to get inside this project. First project up - the ad for Martha Stewart Weddings... yeah, that's cool. These guys do business ALL OVER THE WORLD and they are located right here in little old Winnipeg. Cool. (AND they are looking for people... see the ad here.)
We jetted off to Chapters last night for hours just to SIT IN AIR CONDITIONING. Yes, we did and I am not ashamed. I was cooled. I picked up the new Domino and I recommend it. It's a keeper - all kinds of design suggestions. I saw this fabric and - well, to be honest - I hate it. BUT, I'm on a kick to see what I can do with the stuff I don't like that much.
All I can think about is cooling off...
Hopefully, the rain will do that tonight. At the moment - our entire house is upside down. There's a couch in front of my dishwasher. Dan is so close to being finished the flooring - the trooper that he is. I would really, really like to have about 5 days of no work to put things back in order around here. The purge all the things we don't need. BUT, we are heading to Saskatchewan on Friday for a little visit with my family.
Few things:
Does your town have an electronics recycling program? My hometown (in Saskatchewan) does so I'm packing up the computers I dont' use anymore to have them disposed of properly. Read this to find out why and what you can do. I'm making a BIG effort to reduce VAMPIRE power sources (the AC adapters that stay plugged into the walls and continue to draw power even when the device is not in use). All kinds of things you can do.
Love these. I bought some treats from this cool site yesterday. Love these handmade bags!
I want a sewing machine. I have for a few years now. What do you suggest? My mom is an incredible sewing super-hero. She made a LOT of our clothes growing up. SEVERAL TIMES she tried to teach me, but I wasn't that interested THEN. I think I am now. Only to make pillows and simple stuff like that. What's a VERY, VERY basic sewing machine that might be easy for someone that has LITTLE PATIENCE and a HEAVY FOOT? I don't know where to start.
Got a thick neck? That's not funny, but I couldn't think of a better segway. If you read Ali's blog - you would have learned a little about thyroid issues lately. They can be responsible for many things; weight gain or loss, depression, infertility, etc, etc, etc. Be more proactive about your health. That's my new resolution. I hate doctors and I really, really hate going to them... but, I want to be around for whatever's coming next. I really do.
You asked about my lens. I shoot with the Canon Rebel XTi and I use a fixed 50mm lens for 99.5% of my photos.
Today: paper company and cleaning. That's it. I must go for groceries because we're having Kennedy & Amanda over for dinner. It's kind of a GOOD LUCK dinner as Kennedy is making a trip back to South Africa for his VISA application. He's engaged to Amanda (Dan's step-sister) and they are waiting for immigration to make it possible for them to live and work and love in the same country. That's very cool. I'm going to see if they're up for some pictures... I even bought some NON-ALCOHOLIC red wine for the occasion - for me. They can drink the good stuff.
Hey Tango: you're getting a treat in the mail VERY SOON. Watch for it and don't let the rest of those cute turds at Donna Downey's get to it first. ;) It's from Lucky Dog Biscuits!
Okay, okay. Over and out. Let's do this. GO.
