Eat the red ones last.
Rock and roll. Let's try this again. I had a delicious post written out with all kinds of goodness and then WHAM-O. Gone. Little Monday glitch and here, but I am not discouraged and starting over. Crapper. Probably just the Universe telling me the first post just was ass POOP.
These are sweet Dan's sexy legs. He was helping me test out some location shots yesterday and it was so fun! I am in love with these red doors. Typepad leeches a little colour from the image - but, you get the idea.
We took this weekend to just slow down. We went to a movie. We went walking. We went rural Heritage Days adventuring. We had fun and we had laughs and it was so worth it to just slow down for a minute. Okay - for a whole weekend. There are only 2 more free-Mondays until Dan goes back to working a 5-day week... and I guess that means - so will I. Rats. Summer really flew by so fast.
This is Aiden the high-flying Ukrainian dancer. Yes. Check it out. Click to enlarge this shot to see just how high these mighty-mighty guys flew off the stage. So cool. Great show, Aiden! I'm so glad that we could finally make it. It was completely WORTH it. Bravo!
These are some quick shots that I caught of Max (Aiden's little brother) and Keeley (Aiden's older sister). I missed a shot of Devyn (Aiden's oldest sister), but I will get her on the next go around. We had SO MUCH FUN at Heritage Days out in Cook's Creek. We did it all: petting zoo, perogy lunch, dance concert, scarecrow making contest, pony rides, old barns and tractors. So cool. THANKS to the Stewart-Brooks Circus for the invitation.
Top all of that off with a really amazing sunset. This pinkness - needs a little explanation. It was a series of clouds (shown) surrounded by a HUMUNGOUS cloud that looked like a big ocean pipe wave - too big too be shown. It was amazing. AND IT WAS IN THE EAST. The actual sunset was behind me - we were completely surrounded by a rich cotton candy feel and it was pretty intense.
Couple of random Monday things:
Scrapbookers AHOY! Botanical Paperworks has just posted a special on plantable papers on their blog. This handmade - GORGEOUS stuff is Creating Keepsakes certified. CK kosher. Check that out. SHE's HAVING A SALE! You can PLANT this paper and wildflowers will grown. THAT is a lovely, lovely, ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY idea. AND. She's posting the creations you make - on her blog. I think it would be fabulously fitting if Botanical Paperworks had a scrapbooking Design Team of their own. What do YOU think? Leave her a comment if you're interested and maybe we can roll this ball. (Leigh-Ann Keffer - I think you could rock this product.)
Sweet! The Relish Photography site has begun it's facelift. It's coming along. There are plenty more changes to come but, it's starting... today - I'm gonna get Maile's blog in line with the rest of the identity. Go check it out to see the BEFORE.
Smarties dilemma. Maile are you messing with ME???? Seriously. She (who hails from San Antonio) sent me this picture. Any Canadians see anything WEIRD about this??? I thought she was pulling my leg. Because, to me - those are OBVIOUSLY Rockets. My favourites... But, Rockets nonetheless.
Here in Canada - THESE are Smarties. They're delicious candy-covered chocolate that totally melts in your hand. You eat them by the box and although they are silimar to M&Ms - they're a wee bit better. PLUS, you eat the red ones last. You just do.
Oh, the cross-border mysteries of life. (Like Iced Tea!)
Today: I have a little kick-back work to do (that means I nestle in with my laptop, a blanket and a COFFEE. I've got two website that are in the hand-over stages. I'm going to work on those while Dan builds a workshop in the basement. Sweet! He's building a DOOR on that so NO MORE SAWDUST gets into my painting stuff. Super sweet. We're also heading out this afternoon for a few more test locations for photos,.
Watch for an afternoon post and have a GREAT Monday...
...and GO!

What a fun weekend! LOVE the first shot...jeans agains the red. Very nice. I'm not sure you're allowed to be so good at EVERY thing...sheesh! I love it when clouds are underlit too. Makes everything feel surreal. I'm totally going to buy some of those plantable cards and I'm PISSED that I didn't think of it first. What a perfectly revolutionary idea! AND, Smarties are my favorite too! I had no idea they were moonlighting as something else in Canada...tricky...

Love the red doors! Perfect.
And now you're just teasing me! I LOVE Smarties. (The Canadian kind.) I only get them once a year. Yum. My stash of Canadian goodies is getting slim. Like my canister of that yummy, fruity tea that I can only find up there. Oh well. We've got some unique yummy things down here too. (Although my mind is blank on anything at the moment!)Maybe we should start some type of cross-border swap club, lol!
:)

Hi Kal,
Just a quick and huge THANK YOU. Your book is AMAZING!
More on the way...

Kasie, there's a place online where you can get Canadian candy shipped to you.. they're based I think out of Washington state? They're pretty reasonably priced. And they carry other specialty Canadian foods too, I'll see if I can find you the link.
When I moved to the US it took me a long time to get used to Rockets being Smarties. For several Hallowe'ens my brother-in-law wouldn't let me have any of his "Smarties" because I called them Rockets... after I started calling them Smarties he shared, but it's just. not. right.
I think a DT for Botanical papers is an awesome idea! I've had all kinds of possibilities rolling around in my head since visiting their website.

I sincerely love the picture of Dan in front of the red door. I keep scrolling up to the top just to look at it "one more time". I would love to know what types of places you pick for shoots? I need to find places around here for my own shoots, but I'll feel stupid taking people in front of a store or whatever. KWIM? (I'm such a dork!)

Iced tea, a mystery? Ya'll don't have tea? Then surely you don't have sweet tea. Oooh sweet tea, how I miss it's southern goodness.
Off to check out the plantable paper. :)

I absolutely love that photo with the red background. The perspective is great.
This weekend I finally had the chance to play with water colors. I made some ATCs...and it was so fun! Thanks for your insipiration!

Love that red door!! Am also amazed by those high-flying dancers---my oldest daughter used to do folk dance performance, but I never did see any of the kidlets catching that much air! What a great photo & what terrific dancers---love how they remembered to smile still (something my daughter's dance teacher was always nudging the kids to do :)! Beautiful sibling photos too & glorious sunset!

I'm lovin' the red door - rusted, scratchy looking, peeling, just something about it. And yes sweet treats unique to Canada!! Making sure my Canadian connections hook me up from time to time when we move (I live in a border town so the goods are nice & close at the moment!!) To name a few: Coffee Crisp, Crunchie, Eatmore & Big Turk!!! Here's the link that someone else mentioned btw: http://www.canadaonly.ca/ they're based out of London, ON

Must say I also adore the door :)
I loved Smarties growing up here in Australia... the colours would run all over your hands... AWESOME for a colour freak like me :D
Keep Happy - Keep Enthused

oh my goodness--i haven't had smarties (the chocolate ones) in so long!!! my relatives from england and south africa bring them when they come to visit!
Posted by: s.patel | August 27, 2007 at 09:18 PM
As far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as anything but a Canadian Smartie and anything else should just be banished from candyland - what are they thinking - Smarties without chocolate - come on!!! Coffee Crisp, Crispy Crunch... the list goes on. I actually feel sorry for chocolate loving Americans - think of what they are missing out on.
I don't even think the have Kraft Dinner!!!
Just another reason why being Canadian rocks!
And Kal, thought you would like this one... we bought new Stride Rite shoes for my twins today... the phrase on the Stride Rite box says "Life's waiting. Let's go." - made me think of you!!

So, how do you go about picing your photo locations? I've been around my town, but I never have found any cool looking red doors like that :( poop.
I had no idea that Smarties (American Smarties) where anything but Smarties. And I had no idea that there were Canadian chocolate Smarties. Oh the things you learn!
And ya'll don't have iced tea? What's up with that?

"I don't even think the have Kraft Dinner!!!"
They call it Kraft Macaroni & Cheese here :P We know what it really is.
Posted by: Emma | August 28, 2007 at 01:30 AM
okay we have smarties in Oz as well, they sort of look like yours, I'm heading out to buy a box tomorrow. I used to have smarties all the time, but then along came peanut M&Ms. Will post photo of box tomorrow for you to check out the similarities/differences.
BTW love the red doors.

Hi Kal - and Emma - it's me again!
I was just teasing about the Kraft Dinner comment.
My best friend was from Rockford, Illinois and that was a running joke with us. :)

I just thought it was funny that I found this entry on a google search. I searched Aiden and keeley because those are my kids and I wanted to see if any of my posted pictures would come up in the search. What's so funny is my kids have the same names but my son is the older one. 1 1/2 year old son Aiden and 6 month old daughter Keeley. I haven't seen anyone that had the same names for their kids and also spelled both of the names the same too. Just thought I'd mention the funny coincidence:)
