TRA LA LA! SURPRISE! Hi from sunny Saskatoon SASKATCHEWAN! So, the other day - when I said I was going to take the new CR-V for a spin - Tammy, Pilot and I - actually took a girls road trip 900km north west to Saskatoon. We wanted to surprise my mom (BabaLuba) and we wanted to pop in for my Grandpa's (Gedo) 900th birthday celebration. He's actually just turned 90 - not 900 I figure after you hit 80 - it must feel like you've been around FOREVER. SO HERE WE ARE!
We were testing out the wheels and testing out Pilot's traveling abilities, too. SEEMS SHE'S A ROCKSTAR. She made the 9 hour trip like a seasoned pro WITHOUT A PEEP and the shot above is Tammy & Pilot at a gas station somewhere in rural SK.
We really did have a nice day driving along the super smooth highways. We got to see some summer storm magic both north and south of us with some fantastical lightning displays.
BECAUSE IT WAS A SURPRISE we snuck up on BabaLuba's house and quietly put Pilot on her front door step, rang the doorbell AND RAN. We hid in the bushes to watch. It was funny. My brother Kam was the mastermind behind OPERATION SUGAR CUBE and we pulled it off like BUTTER! My mom was definitely surprised. The tears were flowing.
She was very, very happy with her surprise. So that made it worth the trip. We were really happy to see Grandpa Ken (my dad) and Uncle Kam, too. SO NICE.
Funny Story #1. Our whole family was waiting in line at Fuddruckers for some of the best burgers on earth and we sort of BUMPED into a SUPER nice couple with a sweet baby. We got to talking about her adorable girl named Paisley (is that a CUTE name OR WHAT!?) and it turns out she recognized Pilot from this blog! That's so funny and WHAT A FRICKIN' COINCIDENCE! Kim! SO glad you said hi and can you please email me your snail-mail address - we have a gift for Paisley. Cool!
Funny Story #2. Tammy and I were getting into the car on a busy street and a really nice woman named Renée stopped us to say hi because she recognized us from the blog! SHE LIVES IN HAWAII and was just visiting Saskatoon. I live in Winnipeg and was just visiting. How totally-random-cool is THAT? Hi Renée! Don't forget to email me.
I'm not sure why I have such a sour face in this picture - but, I thought it was a neat shot of Tammy and I cruising over the river on a pedestrian bridge... I toured her around the city a bit this afternoon and it was nice. I grew up here and I love it. I especially love seeing it through new people's eyes. They are always surprised at how beautiful it is.
I love this shot of Tammy. I was really disappointed that all I had with me was my point-and-shoot piece-of-crap camera. Oh, well. We climbed (well, SHE ONLY CLIMBED PART WAY BEFORE SHE BAILED) to the top of a railway bridge to catch the awesome view. The stairs are a little trippy because they are open metal.
And that leads us to right now. Saturday afternoon. Tammy & I have been shopping in the delicious stores
and buying up all the cool stuff we can find. We treated ourselves to pedicures. Oh, and some Matt&Nat handbags to commemorate our trip. BabaLuba & Grandpa Ken have been enjoying their Pilot-time immensely. And Pilot - WHOSE KID IS THIS? SHE'S BEING AN ANGEL. We've all been hanging
out and relaxing on this very, very nice long weekend in my hometown with my parents and my very, very cool brother Kam.
Things to note:
- Many people are wearing green in these photos. THERE IS A RIDER GAME TONIGHT. Go riders. That's the way they do it here. Hardcore.
- Big thanks to Tonic on 2nd Ave for the terrific finds. WHAT A GREAT CLOTHING STORE! We were in there for so long yesterday we got a big fat parking ticket. (It wasn't my fault Dan... it was ALL TAMMY. ;)
- Big thanks to the girls at YU SPA on 8th Street for the awesome pedicures.
- Big thanks to the guy in the red Ford Probe that didn't smash me when I totally AND ACCIDENTALLY cut him off. I have been driving like a TOURIST THAT'S FOR SURE. Sorry Saskatoon.
- Big thanks to the Matt&Nat sale at Mint on Broadway.
Today: Oh, I don't know. My mom's cooking up some kind of super-wonderful dinner for us. We're going to eat outside in the paradise-like temperatures. We're going with my Dad to watch some stock car racing tonight WHICH WILL BE SO COOL. And that's about it.
Tomorrow: we will be enjoying ice cream cake with the seniors before leaving Saskatoon on the first leg of our journey home. It was a quick trip - but, it's been good times.
Okay. I'm heading outdoors to sit by the pool. Kiddie pool that is. GO!
