Best day ever. Yesterday was a completely awesome day. COMPLETELY. Pilot slept until 10am without waking once at night and that, my friends, is a DREAM COME TRUE. She has NEVER done that in all her life. She was a delight in the car and on errands and a pure joy to be around ALL DAY. The cranky jet-lagged baby I was worried about was a well-rested, SUPER FUN kid and that put an entirely TERRIFIC spin on the whole day. BEST day. I think it takes going away for a while - even if it's to what you imagine to be a GREATER place - to remember how great it is at HOME. (Dan, this in NO WAY means I don't want to go on any more vacation so don't EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.) I am going to award yesterday the BEST UNEXPECTED DAY EVER award and say it was 50 times better than I was anticipating. THANK YOU, Pilot.

Oooooh, NOW it's Fall. It's chilly around here and the leaves are barely hanging on. It was -1˚ C (30F) this morning and THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY. It also makes me realize that I cannot go one wearing flip flips forever. Crunching leaves and warm sun on cold cheeks. LOVE IT. Love that Dan, Pilot, Crash and I did our daily walk in record time and I was comfortable and keeping up - Fall energizes me. I love fall and I am SO GLAD that we made it back in time for a few more days of it. BEST SEASON hands down. (Snow is forecasted for Wednesday!)
Since Pilot was so agreeable today - I had plenty of time to get some of our photos organized and ready for printing. This is one of the creative ways that Dan invetned to get Pilot to SIT STILL ALREADY and stop eating sand at the beach. (She gave up on eating sand by the third day THANK GOD.) She didn't seem to mind being buried either. Good kid. BEST WAY TO KEEP YOUR BABY FROM EATING SAND AND DISAPPEARING WITH THE TIDE. Good idea, Dan!
Oh my goodness. Pilot was SO GOOD today that it gave me plenty of time to get some WORK organized and I was just putting some finishing touches on this photo album and I felt the need to mention these two kids. BEST KIDS EVER. They are 5 year old twins and even though they had the same crazy energy as puppies - they were amazing listeners and amazingly well behaved (okay, so they were BETTER THAN puppies!). This session was a couple of weeks ago, but looking at the photos yesterday still cracked me up and brought back the warm glow I had for these two great little boys. I was thoroughly impressed and inspired by Joelle & Mike and their parenting style and attitudes and I wanted to send a shout out because they are doing something VERY, VERY GOOD with their brood. BEST KIDS TO PHOTOGRAPH.
BEST BABY BLANKET. I just got Pilot's new stroller/carseat blanket in the mail. I love it. It's from Small Potatoes and although it's not very big IT'S VERY, VERY STYLISH. I love it. They will handmake you one out of a wide range of fabrics and OF COURSE I needed the Mod Dots in black and white. I also love that it's made locally and that THEY OFFERED BLACK AND WHITE. Swoon. What a great gift. I am going to use this as a working lap blanket after Pilot outgrows it. BEST BABY BLANKET.
And ALSO because Pilot was so darn good - I got a chance to take a spin through the wedding photos I shot the night before we left. It was one of those weddings where you watch the bride and groom and know that there are pure and good things in this world and you can see them with your own eyes. Between the two - EIGHT KIDS. Between the two - four hundred years of living things that not many people have the strength to experience. In just about EVERY SINGLE SHOT the beautiful bride (Michelle) looks like this. Totally and completely happy. BEST SMILE. BEST SMILE because the best reason TO SMILE is being really, really happy right where you are - in this moment.

- BEST HUSBAND EVER goes to Dan for letting me & Pilot sleep in while he snuck away to work yesterday morning. He's like a bull in a China shop and I'm a light sleeper that falls into a deeper sleep in the morning time so this was LIKE A MIRACLE MUCH APPRECIATED.
- BEST BABY TRAVEL COMPANY goes to Akamai Mother's Rentals on Maui. I contacted David over there and he had a nice and clean stroller, high chair and carseat waiting for us when we got to Maui and he picked everything up when we left. So convenient. So happy with how that worked out.
- BEST DOG EVER goes to Crash. Man, I can not say enough about this dog. He's awesome. He's a gift from something bigger. Big thanks to Matt, Amanda, Kennedy & Chewie for looking after him while we were away. He must have had a good time - he's POOPED. We appreciate that.

Today: Well, I'm going to attempt to get Pilot to the nanny and back into a routine. I hate to drop her off after the wonderful yesterday we had together... I really do. I thought I would chill out all day yesterday and eat bonbons with my feet up and then it hit me: I HAVE BEEN CHILLING FOR THE LAST 8 DAYS. Enough is enough already! GET SERIOUS. Get moving! I have some stuff to finish and some running around to get to today. I have a VERY, VERY special person to meet for lunch and I'm SO excited. I feel SO GRATEFUL for such a non-horrible yesterday that I'm ITCHING to face Tuesday and get this show on the road. AND FIND ME SOME EFFIN' HONEYCRISP APPLES (Safeway & Superstore Winnipeg you SUCK BALLS IN THE WORST WAY.) And do heaps of laundry. And maybe some art. And some shopping.
