Hi Monday! I have high hopes for this week and I'm going to start with a little tour of my lovely painting studio. I get a lot of emails saying 'what does your studio look like' or 'I imagine you have a dreamy space paint' or 'you must have an amazing creative room to draw in'... OH, CERTAINLY! I have toodled around the internet and caught glimpses of popular life-artists spaces. Heck, last year I was even INSIDE Donna Downey's pretty swanky home studio in North Carolina. So since it was a topic of discussion between Dan and I yesterday, why not! Let's take a little tour...
Nice, isn't it? And those are the pretty parts (shot at 1600 ISO because there are no windows and only a few hanging bulbs). I bet you sort of imagined dreamy North facing floor-to-ceiling windows and gleaming hardwoods... I imagine them, too. Don't worry, I can tell you that the exposed wires are only dangerous if you touch them and the sewer vent that is directly under my easel is only annoying when there's toxic smell coming out of it. I can also tell you that you will not find anything lined up, organized or arranged according to colour. There are no zig-zag scissors or glue dots. Or windows for that matter. You will not find a cappucino maker here. You will not even find a chair. Actually - I can tell you that you will not find ANYTHING. Because everything is impossible to find and I'm pretty much convinced that the centipedes and concrete bugs STEAL MY SHIT FROM TIME TO TIME. It's either them or Dan because they are the only other people that dare to descend into our 110 year old basement.
And every now and then - I get really frustrated about it all. I make a long mental list of what a crap hole it is and what an embarassing disgrace for someone who lives to create beauty.
But then I pour my paint and get lost in what I really, really love to do - no matter where I am - no matter how many teeny, tiny rodent eyes are watching me.
Today: We are engaging a new week. It will be very busy and filled with all kinds of things. I don't know what they are at this point because I have a crap load of SHOULD-DO's to get through before me and my girl tribe can tackle some of the really important things. Like PLAYING. And cooing. And connecting with people and causes we believe in. BUT FIRST, I am off to exercise - it is becoming an important part of my day.
Rock + roll. GO!
