Oh man. Say hello to one cute puppy. HIS NAME IS NORMAN. He's the newest member of our family. He's a 15 week French Bulldog. (Happy Father's Day Dan!) We got him yesterday and I can only say that what might seem crazy from the outside - is really a well-laid plan to make sure there is a solid canine + companionship element in this family. I'm a big believer in kid/dog relationships and the way Crash + Pilot interact pretty much brings me to TEARS. The fact that Crash is the best dog I have ever met (nevermind owned) also makes me misty-eyed. The fact that boxers are typically given the life span of 6-8 years and Crash turned 6 a few months ago MAKES ME WANT TO SOB. And makes me appreciate him three times as much. And makes me want to stop the clock. And makes me realize that if I hadn't invited a little chaos into my life way back then - I wouldn't have all the awesomeness he's brought me either.
[Dan and I both wanted another Boxer, but our house isn't roomy enough for two toddlers and two big dogs so we decided to try something new. I'm a BIG DOG fan. Little dogs are new to me and tips are appreciated.]
So - that's that. I am already monitoring everyone's pooping habits around here so what's one more? I am already waking through the night to tend to crybabies - so what's one more? We are already walking daily and playing daily and growing together - so I am positive that Norman will grow to be a great fit and an awesome little buddy for everyone.
Since the puppy is for Dan (he was feeling outnumbered by girls) he got to pick the name. Norman. Short for Norman Scharzkopf. Or Norman Guitars. Or Norman Rockwell. Or Norm from Cheers. Where I like a name teaming with meaning - Dan just likes a good, solid name. (And that's what I love about Dan.)
Today: We have a busy week full of appointments and checkups and GET-YOUR-SHIT-IN-ORDER type things. Today is about Crash. He has a pretty intensive vet appointment to put my mind at ease that he will not die on me any time soon. Norman needs a Bowser Dog Bed. Pilot needs some exercise. Penn needs some snuggles. Nicole + baby Lucas are on their way to have coffee and socializing, catching up and comparing notes. I love having friends on maternity leave. I am not so fond of rainy Mondays - but, there's a bright side to all this puppy love.
Extra strong java - GO!
