I have more ideas than time these days. About 10 months ago I got two really great and really HUGE (70 x 100cm) IKEA frames with the idea of doing a simple art project with Pilot. And the frames have been sitting in our dining room in their original packaging ever since. This weekend I finally got a chance to get it done and it was EASY and fun and Pilot was so stoked about her painting that now she just runs through the hallway where it's hung shouting PAINTING, PAINTING, PAINTING!! And so do I.
MAKE MASTERPIECES FOR YOURSELF. Like I said - this is simple, definitely not rocket science, not a creative breakthrough, not expensive and not hard. It's also very cool. I took the paper that came in the frames and turned it over and let Pilot paint her heart out with cheap black gouache and my cheap paint brushes. After it dried I added a little blue for accents and then let her colour on the whole thing with pens, pencils and crayons. Whatever. She was the driver of this project - I was simply the colour-picker. I only gave her the options of colours that would "work" with our decor. It's not acid-free, archival or anything like that - it's just a quick-and-dirty make-it-happen project that we plan to replace and replace and replace and redo as the wind blows us. It was hard to get a great shot of the painting because it's in a hallway and it's a cheap frame so it's really, really glossy. But, whatever. I think it's awesome. And it cost $30. Which is even better. Sweet summer project that is twenty times better than hanging artwork you don't love. Give this one a go.
Today: Grandma Janet is hanging with my ladies so that I can paint. Only it's humid and smelly down in my creepy studio so I am going to change gears and go do some errands in the nice sunny outdoors. Watch for helter-skelter posts this week. I'd love to see your take on PROJECT ART KID. Send me your links!
