Hello newness. It's amazing what a coat of paint can do! I say that because our weekend was full of colour + painting. I painted the main floor of the house. And then some. It was a little out of hand, but I had an opportunity and ran with it. And then I got all fired up to paint some canvasses and make new prints and rearrange our artwork. And paint stripes in the kitchen. It was ridiculous! I used to paint the walls ALL THE TIME and then life got in the way. Now that I'm back with paint-brush-in-hand it reminded me of a few things:
- painting is easy
- painting is MESSY
- messy is okay
- okay is alright
- paint is cheap
- change is good
I will post before and after pictures when the after looks how I want it to. I'm working on some paintings that the colours were designed to showcase... (IN MY MIND) so it doesn't have the exact look I'm going for (BECAUSE THE PAINTINGS DO NOT YET EXIST). This is a comlex idea that is completely lost on Dan and all other people that do not live in my brain. I get that. I'm okay with it. Spring makes me crave change and adding a small person to the mix makes me itch to reflect a new era around here, too. Double whammy. It was UNAVOIDABLE and we will see how it goes.
I roped the big P's into helping me paint a bench. I thought I was brilliant. It proved to be a certified disaster and I was thankful that our finished basement became UNFINISHED in the renovation because WE MADE A MESS. And then some. It was pure chaos. I thought I was prepared for it by putting the girls in painting shirts and rubber boots. But, I totally did not account for toddler-lunacy and we ended up with paint from the tips of our toes to the insides of our ears. All over the floor. In their boots. That is not a joke. This photo was taken as the action started, but my camera was quickly abandoned. I rescued a nearby sleeping Poet only seconds before she was given a healthy aqua base-coat by Penn. Whew. Thankfully nothing a couple of baths couldn't clear up.
Unphased by our overhaul - Poet has been delightful. She's pretty great. She's FUNNY. She almost always has this slightly terrified look on her face as if to say 'I THOUGHT YOU DID THIS BEFORE!' She also tends to sleep with one eye open. I think she knows Penn better than we thought. ;) Her eyelashes are coming in and they are pretty. She's smiling a lot and cooing like a rockstar. She was a cooperative rockstar through all the painting.
Today: I have a lineup of paintings waiting to EXPLODE from my brain. The key is to get them out before they're gone. I'm not sure if that will happen with a baby in my studio... but I'm going to try because it's been a long time since I finished a painting that was big + mighty + satisfying. Maybe today's my day.
GO!
