Dear Halloween 2011; There are several things I will remember about this holiday. We have been celebrating for a long time. We, meaning the girl tribe, have several costumes each. Indoor costumes. Outdoor costumes. We have been dressing up just-for-fun in anticipation of this day because in the past this day was strange and confusing for small people, but Halloween 2011 - NOW WE GET IT. The girls were over the moon to collect candy. And be out at dark. And GIVE their treats away (yes, we ran out of candy). It was fun. And, if you want to know the truth - it was a little bit sad... because the photo at the top of this post kind of breaks my heart with its cuteness. I bought those bear costumes last year thinking that they would be 'so big the girls could grow into them and wear them next year'. Not really understanding that next year would come. And it's awesome. But those are my babies walking away. *Gulp*. That's cute. And AWESOME. And kinda makes me want to curl up and cry.
Mostly, Halloween 2011 - you were awesome because the guy in the photo above these words is pretty amazing. Oh, sometimes he's frustrating, too. But, mostly he has this joie de vive that makes holidays memorable for those lucky little girls of his. He gets right in there with them - lovin' every minute of it. Making memories for them. Short on words, but long on being there. That's cool.
Oh these ladies... (these pumpking carving photos are for Baba + Grandma Chris.) They were fancy fairies by day - leaving a trail of glitter. They were skeletons by night in their special pajamas from Baba. They were bears, penguins and frogs when we were outdoors. Witches when we had dinner. And orange tutu-ed ballerinas every other minute. We ran the Halloween gamut with movies, crafts, cookies, songs and pumpkins. We submerged in Halloween.
Thank you Halloween 2011. Thank you so much.
Goodnight Halloween. With your memory of this moment sweeter than any of the three hundred mini chocolate bars I have consumed... LOOK at these three.
I've never been a big fan of Halloween... but maybe now I am.
[On to Christmas, I say!]
Today: new prints will be showing up in my ART SHOP. I'm booking plane tickets for January when I will be going to Salt Lake City for something exciting. I'm listening to Coldplay's new record. I'm painting. Drinking tea. And wading in the leftover goodness from Halloween (and by that I mean eating the girls candy). ;)
GO!
