This is a detail of a painting that I'm currently working on. It's an Anna's Hummingbird. So her name will be Anna. The thing with the Anna's hummingbird is that they have these fabulously iridescent pink feathers around their heads and I wanted them to dance.
So I found some sexy glitter...
I applied a gloss gel medium where I wanted the sparkle. Then shook the glitter on like salt. Waited for it to dry. And wiped away the rest.
That last photo doesn't do her justice... but really it worked like a charm. All this painting needs now is a little script magic and then I will be happy. Pretty Anna will be showing for the first time at the DOWNTOWN UNDERGROUND art show and fundraiser WHERE I WILL BE LIVE PAINTING. This Thursday night. (I believe the show is actually Thursday + Friday and if you're in town you should check it out, come say HI, support the CALL*RESPONSE and Kids Help Phone charity.)
NOTE: these photos were taken with my new phone. Not too shabby. Right?
Also NOTE: I went to the USA yesterday on a covert operation. I thought I was doing something smart but perhaps illegal. Turns out - it was just SMART. And not illegal at all! I mailed the ARTSHOP sale items that were going to the US FROM the US so that there would be no CanadaPost delays! The pile was enormous and all I could imagine were enormous amounts of emails around Christmas time with complaints that the packages were still not arrived. CanadaPost tends to be unpredictable, slow, and unreliable around the holidays... and that causes me a tremendous amount of stress, jaw pain, ulcers and sometimes tears. SO YAY! If you're in the US - your goodies are on the way and should be there by Monday. And I am not in jail. (Or as bad ass as I thought. Apparently even old ladies driving tractors do it).
Today: it's a busy girl-tribe day so off I go to get myself some coffee and an extra shot of patience + slow-down so I can be in the moment and clear-headed. Having lots to do with two toddlers and a little one that still needs naps and TLC is always a bit of a logistical challenge. But we will make it happen! See you on the next go-around November. YOU. WERE. FAB.
GO!
