I 'broke up' with a fancy NYC ad agency (who shall remain nameless) when they hipply + cooly requested I do 'spec work' for a few of their high profile campaigns. 'Spec work' can take many forms. The type of work they wanted me to do included work that may or MAY NOT be paid depending on whether the multi-million dollar client likes the pitch. No compensation for materials or time if they don't like it. I could go on and on about what spec work does to the industry... but one thing it doesn't do is PAY BILLS. FIERCE MOVE NO.01: Refuse to be taken advantage of by a company that values ad execs + fancy clients but not the artists behind the ads.

I'm going to try to record my fierce moves of 2012 - when they happen. Why? Because I forget. And when I forget about stuff like that I start to leak courage. I forget that I've got it in me. I've tried gratitude + inspiraton journals and let me tell you THEY WORK. They cultivate gratitude + inspiration like a grow-op. SO. Every once in a while I might share a FIERCE MOVE here so I remember that I am very capable of being fierce.
