I am feeling like the internet is very out of control. Instagram made me a photo sharer. It made life easy for me. I keep in touch with family & friends by sharing with them my personal photos. My kids. My pups. My house. My life. It makes a beautiful collection and in Instagram's Terms of Service it says that the user retains all and every right to their photos. I thought I was safe. I found out yesterday that my favourite photo app is connected to third parties that allow/encourage people to PIN Instagram photos. I know, I know - everyone is sick of this discussion already... but what that means is that you can PIN one of my photos (without me even knowing) and then there it is for Pinterest to modify, exploit or sell.
Sigh. Does this not seem ass backwards to anyone else?
I took my mini Instagram feed off the left side of my blog and I really want to put it back when the developers of these apps make it kosher.
Read more about it on Alex is Type A. She's amazing + smart + a really awesome writer that makes things make sense. (She's also a talented calligrapher that I want to collborate with some day!) She has given me permission to post her Instagram image in an effort to educate people about how things are unfolding on the web.
EDITED: I put my Instragram feed back up because I emailed SNAPwidget (the provider of the feed service) and they took the PIN IT button down from their photos while they investigate further. GOOD SIGN.
Today: I have a painting that will be finished. Black tea on deck.
GO!
